Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about custom cigar molds and this service.

I do not sell cigars or tobacco related products. I provide digital files for 3D printing.

I provide *.STL (stereolithography) files, but have other formats I can provide on special request.

I typically aim to have the models designed and sent within 12-24 hours.

I will send the models to you free of charge under the agreement that if you find value, you provide equal value back to me in return. I believe that part of value I provide to you comes in the form of the time I have spent designing the models, the time I spend customizing the models specifically for you, that time I have saved you from creating your own models, and ultimately in what benefit/value the printed molds give to you.

I am very open to most of the ideas generous folks come up with for returning value. I openly admit to preferring cash, but have also appreciated many of the items folks have sent that help me to continue my efforts. One item I want to address is the common offering of social media promotion. While this is certainly appreciated, I believe that the existence of this service and website is the value that is matched by any promotion you choose to perform. The models provided, design work, and support I offer is in addition to the existence of this website and should be considered.

Most people are very generous. There are very few people who admit to value received without providing value in return.

3D printed molds work, are affordable, and can be efficiently customized for many different styles of cigars. I personally really enjoy the use of wood molds, but they can also be a luxury item for many rollers. While 3D printed plastic parts have become synonymous with cheap junk, these mold designs are of good quality and being able to print them in your own home whenever you want is of significant importance

If the mold top and bottom go together but are too tight for your preferences, let me know and I can adjust the tolerance in a way that will require only one half to be reprinted. If they do not go together at all, I recommend you print a calibration square and check for x-y skew.

Many people have used local and online printing services. I am currently looking at one specific service that provides very affordable prints and reasonable turn around time.

I highly recommend a printer from Bambu Labs. I do not own one (yet!) myself, but have used them and find them very intuitive, easy to use, fast and accurate printing. You can use my amazon affiliate link above, or check out their website directly and wait for some of the good sales they have. I personally own a Creality Ender 3v2, and print all of my own molds with it.
